Environmental problems, such as polluted air, water and soil become human environmental cries when biophysical conditions significantly threaten human health, society or way of life. Human environmental crises emerge as a result of culture and structure of power and physical implications of political economics. Political, physical and conceptual mechanisms along with inherent contradictions and conflicts of interest that accompany their use contribute towards dysfunctional governance and exploitation of resources and abuse of human rights. The crucial question that emerges is: Can we build environmentally sound and socially just solutions to our problems in ways that minimize or our prevent the incidence of such conflict along with providing sustainable development?
