Environmental Pollution and Environmental Management

As we enter the third millennium, humanity is faced with a huge challenge. Climate change, bio-diversity, desertification, threatening food security and increasing pollution are the major threats to the future. Natural resources, both on land and water, are increasingly in demand to cater to the human needs and expectations. There has been significant damage resulting through pollution from various human activities. There is an urgent need for meaningful and co-ordinated environmental management, whereby capacity building can be strengthened and a symbiotic partnership between human beings and the environment be established. This book highlights critical environmental issues, and touches upon various environmental pollution with focus on the causes, sources and remediation. The emphasis has been laid on key environmental management strategies to combat the menace caused by various pollutants, and also to be prepared in advance to tackle the effects of such pollutants as well as natural hazards.
