This book presents a short account of the multidisciplinary nature of environment which includes, Natural resources, Ecosystem, Biodiversity, Environmental pollution, Social Issues and human population in relation to environment. It covers the syllabus, recently introduced by University Grants Commission at undergraduate level for all disciplines, in all the universities, throughout India. The book provides a simple reading so that it is comprehensible even to students with little or no science background. The technical terms used in the book are explained at the end of book and multiple choice, short answer type and essay type questions have been given at the end of each chapter. It is hoped that the book will be of much use to the students of undergraduate classes and for those who have an interest in knowing the environment and its related problems.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR B.L. Jagetiya
Dr. B.L. Jagetiya is Lecteurer in Botany at M.L.V. Govt. College, Bhilwara (Rajasthan) since 1996. He obtained his Ph.D. from M.L. Sukhadia University, Udaipur (Rajasthan) and has a research experience of eleven years. His scientific interests are in the fields of Plant Physiology and various aspects of Environmental Sciences. He has published 35 research papers in the National and International journals of repute apart from a book entitled “Paryavaran Adhyayanâ€. Four Ph.D. students and one Senior Research Fellow are working under his supervision.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR N.C. Aery
Prof. N.C. Aery is Professor of Botany and Associate Dean, University College of Science, M.L. Sukhadia University, Udaipur. For the last 30 years or so, Dr. Aery has worked in various fields of environment namely, Geobotany and Biogeochemistry of Mineral Deposits, Phytoremediation, Biomonitoring, Ecotoxicology and Biodiversity. Dr. Aery visited Colombo, sri Lanka and Budapest, Hungary to attend ICRO/IUBS/ICSU Training Programmes on Biomonitoring, published more than 100 research papers in National and International journals of repute and has handled 10 major research projects funded by various agencies. Eighteen students have completed their Ph.D. and 08 are pursuing research work under his guidance. Presently, his group is pursuing studies on the environmental monitoring of naturally occurring radionucllides, essentiality/toxicity of Se, Li, si, Ag and U in plants, phytoremediation of mining wastelands integrating Remote Sensing and GIS technology and relative agronomic evaluation of certain phosphatic fertilizers. He is making serious efforts to digitise the plant collection of this region in order to establish the first Electronic Herbarium in the state of Rajasthan.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Pankaj Purohit
Pankaj Purohit did his M.Sc. (Botany) in 2002 and passed NET (Life Science) in the same year. He is doing research under the supervision of Dr. Jagetiya at M.L.V. Govt. College, Bhilwara, contributed five review articles in the National and International journals and has co-authored a book “Paryavaran Adhyayanâ€.
