Ethnobotany, being interdisciplinary, has emerged recently as one of the most important branch of natural science. It has great relevance to the urgent needs of modern man. The main body of the book contains information on ethnomedicines used for mankind and his pet animals, food, fodder, fuel, timber, agricultural tools and implements, and other miscellaneous domestic purposes. The results are comprehensively discussed. Photographs depicting uses in the region, maps and relevant bibliography are provided.

This book will be of particular use to the research workers in botany, agriculture and medicine. It will be of interest to naturalists, foresters, conservationalists, sociologists, anthropologists, biodiversity planners and administrators in the country, apart from teachers and students in natural science.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR D.A. Patil

Dr. D.A. Patil did his Ph.D. in 1983, from Dr. B.A. Marathwada University, Aurangabad (M.S.). He is Reader in P.G. Department of Botany, S.S.V.S’s L.K. Dr.P.R. Ghogrey Science College, Dhule. He was Chairman, Board of Studies in Botany and dean of faculty of science, North Maharasthra University, Jalgaon (MS.) He is a member of many prestigious academic and scientific societies. He is also a member of Editorial Advisory Boards for Journal of Life Journal of Advanced in Science and technology. He has significantly contributed in the field of research in taxonomy, floristic, plant anatomy, morphology, ethnobotany and etymology. He is recipient of Dr. M.S. Swaminathan award for the year 1999, awarded by Indian Botanical Society for publishing the best research paper. He has published 76 research papers in reputed national and international journals. He authored Flora of Dhule and Nandurbar District, Forest Flora of Jalgaon District (Maqharashtra) and A key to the Angiospermic families of North Maharashtra. He has guided six research students for Ph.D. degree. Recently, he received Scientists of the Year Award, 2004, awarded by national Environmental Science Academy, New Delhi.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR P.S. Patil

Dr. D.A. Patil obtained his Ph.D. degree in Botany (1983) from Dr. Banasaheb Ambeadkar Marathwada University (M.S.) He has been engaging teaching of Botany at graduate and postgraduate classes to date. His profound researvh interest in Experimental taxonomy, Floristics, Ethnobotany and Etymology resulted in publication of nine books.He is also a member of Editorial Advisory Boards for Journal of Life Journal of Advanced in Science and technology. He has significantly contributed in the field of research in reputed national and international journals. He authored Flora of Dhule and Nandurbar District, Forest Flora of ethnobotany and etymology. He is a member of many prestigious academic and scientific bodies and societies He also contributes for Marathi daily newpapers and creates interest in plant by delivering talks especially for younger generation.
