ABOUT THE AUTHOR Abu Imam

Professor Abu Imam (born 1928) did his M.A.in History from Dhaka University (1951) and M.A.in Archaeology (1956) & Ph.D.(1963) from London University. He taught in the Dhaka, Rajshahi and Jahangirnagar Universities, and served as Professor, Chairperson and Dean for several terms in the last two Universities. He was Chairperson of History Department when he took initiative and founded the Department of Archaeology in the Jahangirnagar University. He was Senior Research Fellow in St. Antony's College of Oxford University (1966-70). At present he is working as Academic Adviser in the International Centre for Study of Bengal Art (ICSBA). He contributed many articles in reputed journals. His outstanding work remains Sir Alexander Cunningham and the Beginning of Indian Archaeology (1966).
