Fatehpur Sikri: Revisiting Akbar’s Masterpiece is an investigation of the genesis and creation of Akbar’s great palace complex. Many of the buildings are still in such a good state of repair that they form a convincingly solid background against which to analyse the Great Emperor’s principles and beliefs. Exploring the physical architecture of Fatehpur Sikri helps to demystify the happenings within Akbar’s court, and the enigma surrounding the habits and customs of a city that was for about fifteen years the glittering centre of one of the richest and most successful empires the world has seen.
