The book is suitable for those students who have a paper in their curriculum which deals with Financial Markets or Financial Services and the target audience includes graduate and post graduate courses in the disciplines like Commerce, Economics and Management. It shall also serve the purpose for certain interdiscipli-nary courses like Business Economics, International Business, International Trade etc. Moreover this book is highly useful to those who want to get an insight about how the financial markets function. The book also can be used as a reference guide to those pursuing research in the field of finance. It is important to know that the analysis that goes into the book is with reference of the year 2003 and early part of 2004 when certain macroeconomic changes were taking place in the Indian Economy like increasing falling inflation levels, rise in forex reserves, increased foreign flows into stock markets, increased attention towards the disinvestments process of PSUs, trend towards universal banking and reduction of NPAs amongst the banking industry, reversal of the bear phase in the stock markets etc. it is quite possible looking at the dynamics of the macro economic scenario that some of the analysis and related text might have reduced applicability few years from now than it has today. The length of the text has been kept to the minimum so that most of it can be reasonably covered in one semester course. The writer while writing the book has assumed that the students have the basic understanding of the simple mathematics, statistics and accounting.
