India’s financial sector has seen reform measures ranging from the deregulation of interest rates, adoption of prudential norms, equity floatation by public sector banks, introduction of derivatives trading as well as emergence of regulatory institutions. It has moved from a "repressed state" to a liberalized state with an increase in the number of markets, players and instruments. This book is a collection of papers which discuss conceptual issues, the theoretical foundation and empirical verification of financial sector reforms and their impact on economic activity, and the extent of financial sector reforms undertaken in India. The role of stock and bond markets, credit systems and culture, capital account convertibility and non-performing loans are also some of the issues discussed in this book.
