Fishes are among the most numerous and highly diversified groups of aquatic faunae. In India, over 2400 fish species have been recorded, including alien species. The aquatic ecosystems and fisheries are subject to intense pressure from a wide range of anthropogenic and environmental disturbances. The available data indicate approximate 60% reduction in the fishes over the last three decades. It is therefore, imperative to document changes in aquatic diversity, habitat attributes, bio geographical shifts and life history so as to devise appropriate rehabilitation measures for conservation of fish and other aquatic organisms. This book "Fish Genetic Resources" contains different chapters covering various aspects on fish taxonomic inventory, their morphological features, characterization of population, various risk and threats, alien species, captive propagation, resource assessment of fish diversity and evaluation of ecological interactions for successful conservation approaches with increased applications of cutting edge sciences, horizon of research and development in fisheries sector.
