The United Nations World Food Programme Organised a series of consultations on “Food and Nutritional Security-the Role of Food Assistance in Selected States of Indiaâ€. The states covered included Chattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Rajasthan and Uttaranchal. The Consultations had been divided into thematic sessions such as Mother and Child Nutrition, Sustainable Livelihoods, Joint Forest Management, Education among others. The content of the book has been presented along thematic lines using the rich inputs from the various presentations. The complication for the first time draws out the essence of field realties of food based programmes. It is hoped that the book would provide useful reading to practitioners and policy makers engaged in addressing food security in India.
