This book is a new, analytic and informative study of Foreigners at the court of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Most of the writers writing about the court and courtiers of Maharaja Ranjit Singh made an passing reference to foreign courtiers, who played in important role in running his military and civil administration for two decades. Thus they could not be fare to Foreign courtiers. This work is based on contemporary Persian, Gurmukhi and English sources which have been used with caution. In the study the efforts have been made to prove that the reorganized army of the Maharaja towards the end of his reign was far better than the unorganized army of the earlier period, and the credit for this goes, no small measure, to his efficient European officers. The book also present the foreign courtiers’ role at the Lahore Darbar. Not only their contribution for the improvement of Maharaj Ranjit Singh’s Army and Civil Department but also their relation, with the Maharaja, and his successors, their mutual relations and finally their relations with the British Government have been discussed at length. The book is expected to cater to the needs of those who desire to delve into military organization of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
