ABOUT THE AUTHOR Hira Lal Gupta

Dr. Hira Lal Gupta has served University of Saugar as Head of Department of History from 1946 to 1977, holding all academic and several administrative ranks. Actively associated with the Indian Historical Records Commission for over three decades, he has been General President of the Institute of Historical Studies, Indian History Congress, North-East Indian, South India, M.P. and U.P. History Congresses, member of almost all Historical Associations in the country and the Inter-national Association of Asian Historians. His publications are ‘Fort William India House Correspondence, vol. VIII’, two chapters in the Comprehensive History of India, vol. XI, numerous research papers’ accounts. He has made several endowments to encourage qualitative research in history and has traveled extensively over the European, Asian and American continents.
