Fresh Insights into Contemporary American Literature comprises Twenty-five scholarly and insightful essays and is a befitting index of the Indian scholars’ response to the ever changing scenario of American literature, culture, history and politics. It concentrates on literature, and majority of the essays cover the explosive post 1960s period in American literature. The scholarly treatises map a vast range of contemporary literature including those by the ethnics of colour, black-white racial problems, immigrant experiences, feminist texts, and so on. A stark feature of the book, however, is that the essays use critical theory to support, analyse, or highlight some crucial points in a literary text, bring out the cutting edge and the multifaceted diversity of a text. The volume offers fresh insights on acclaimed authors like Robert Frost, Toni Morrison and August Wilson besides focusing on Science Fiction, the dramaturgy of Sam Shepard, comparative assessment of the African-Americans, a critique of the diasporic dialectics of a film, reevaluations of Indian diasporic writers in the United States including Bharati Mukherjee, Anurag Mathur etc.
