Indian subcontinent with its strategic position presents unique and varied physical, geographical and meteorological features. The numerous freshwater habitats are represented by large rivers to small streams and great lakes to small ponds. The lentic habitat presents a variety of features because of there distribution ranging from high altitude to and plateau of our country. The organisms of these variety of lentic habitats have aroused immense interest of many limnologist and hydrobiologists.
