This collection of 56 papers attempts to address the key issues concerning the transformation of libraries from traditional to digital. Focusing on the technological transformation, it describes in detail the new and emerging areas and applications such as mobile technology application, multi-biometrics, internet archive, and cloud computing.
Further examining the challenges of digitization and virtual transformation, it discusses at length the data mining and knowledge management, social space software and networking tools, open access movement and IPR laws, policy, planning and managerial issues, and ethical and cultural issues. It also contains some case studies related to emerging library services and situations.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Tariq Ashraf
Dr. Tariq Ashraf has been educated at Hindu College, University of Delhi and holds Ph.D. degree from Department of Library and Information Science, University of Delhi. He is Associate Professor and Head, Library & Information Services at Institute for Integrated Learning of Management, New Delhi. Before joining IILM in 1997, he has also worked at Centre for Policy Research and Indian Institute of Mass Communication for nearly 9 years. He has contributed 15 research papers to various national and international journals and is one of the editors of two other publications. He is also author of a book “Problems of Library Acquisitionsâ€. He has also been associated with Management Libraries Network as editor of its quarterly newsletter. Dr. Ashraf is recipient of Eugene Garfield Travel Grant for the year 2003 and visited United States in October 2003 on an invitation from American Society For Information Science & Technology.
