Gender Studies is a multi-disciplinary subject where new dimensions are suggested in understanding women’s position. Gender Studies, as a discipline is gaining immense importance with the march of time and the need to incorporate women’s problems in the higher educational systems has been felt throughout the world. Assorted women’s groups all over the world are working on the theoretical and practical base of the emerging academic discipline. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Kanwar Sonali Jolly-Wadhwa
Kanwar Sonali Jolly-Wadhwa, a distinguished scholar and creative writer in her own right did her double BA (Hons.) from Lady Shri Ram College (Delhi University) and San Francisco State University, California, USA and passed with distinguished honour under Summa Cum Laude, the highest order of academic excellence in American Universities. She completed her Masters’ Degree, majoring in history with a specialization in Gender Studies. At a young age she is the recipient of many awards. She is a member of the Kappa-Phi chapter of the PHI ALPHA THETA, the American National Honour Society for the recognition of conspicuous attainments and scholarship in the field of history. She was bestowed by the Achievement Award for ‘Academic Excellence’. She has also been honoured by an Honorary membership of ‘The Golden Key National Honour Society’. Another standard publication to her credit is ‘Father of the Pearl’, a collection of her poetry. Sonali’s love for writing stems from a deep awareness of life, its inherent problems and an earnest desire to seek solutions which are compatible with her values and ethics. Her understanding of gender through the pages of history brings out the conviction, compassion, love and courage of women. She is currently working on ‘The Catholic Nuns’ in Mexico.
