Universality of marriages and early marriages are the special features in the history of nuptiality in India. ABOUT THE AUTHOR J. Sheela

Dr. (Ms.) J. Sheela (b. 1972) obtained her master’s degree in Population Studies with first rank & class and doctorate degree from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. She has published about a dozen papers for professional journals, edited books, attended national conferences and presented papers. She is the recipient of Dr. C. Chandrasekaran award (2nd prize jointly with other scholar) instituted by the Indian Association for the Study of Population held at Visakhapatnam and also got a small grant of ?600 from the Parkes Foundation, U.K. for this piece of work. She is presently working as a Research Assistant in the project entitled “Pregnancy Outcome in Tamil Nadu with special Reference to Incidence, Care and Cost” in the department of Population Studies, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore.
