The physio-chemical basis of biological systems and the control of their development and interactions are being unraveled in spectacular advances in molecular biology. During the past few decades both basic and applied aspects of biotechnology have developed rapidly. Genetic engineering provides great promise for the improvement of crop plants. The successful application of biotechnological tools will require reliable, high levels of transgene expression and their stability over generations. The availability of cellular and molecular toolbox has opened up a plethora of prospects. This book provides an authoritative review account of many aspects of current interest and progress in the field of genetics and molecular biology in crop improvement that has been made in the recent past.

Book includes 12 chapters, prepared by specialist and subject experts on different aspect of subjects. The major section includes articles viz. : Genetic improvement of sugarcane through non-conventional approaches; Potential of chloroplast simple sequence repeats in genetic analysis and crop improvement; Aroma, starch and shape of rice grain: A molecular prospective; Diversity analysis in Brassica juncea varieties by using morphological and molecular markers; Genomic and epigenetic perspectives of molecular and biochemical basis of Heterosis in plants; Methylomics and inheritance in plants: DNA and RNA methylation; Identification of the U-Triangle six Brassica species and three of their relatives based on chloroplast DNA; Molecular markers and their application : Foeniculum vulgare; Morphological and cytological studies on Morinda lucida; Effect of polyamines on seed quality parameters in aged seeds in radish; on Kala Zeera (Bunium persicum).

This book is useful to researchers, molecular biologists, biotechnologists, plant breeders and teachers engaged in advanced genetics and molecular biology for crop improvement.
