The coverage is from basic methodologies and techniques of chromosome research through cell and tissue culture to biotechnological approaches and bioinformatics. It explores current approaches in the study of chromosomes, cytotoxic effects, biotechnological potential of crop residues, plant disease evaluation, biocontrol methods and evaluation by molecular methods, micropropagation, protoplast fusion and molecular modeling uning bioinformatics. Features: Covers techniques and applications of cytogenetic and cytotoxic studies in assessing effects of gemetocides drugs, environmental effluents and heavy metals on a wide range of plant materials; Includes chapters on methods of micropropagation, protoplast fusion, production of medicinally important products. Explores areas like flora studies, antimicrobial activities and medicinally important products; Presents disease evaluation, biocontrol strategies, their evaluation and bioinformatics in molecular modeling.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR A. Arundhati

Prof. A. Arundhati is basically Cytogeneticist and ramified her research pursuits into the field of molecular genetics after receiving training at John Innes Institute, Norwich, U.K. as overseas research associate (Dept of Biotechnology, Govt of India). Transformation of cajanus cajan, DNA methyl transferase genes of tobacco and tobacco tumors are her current interests.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR V. Padmaja

Prof. V. Padmaja is a senior faculty member in the Department of Botany, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. Presently, she is serving as programme coordinator, UGC-Special Assistance Programme. Though basically a cytogeneticist, diversified into the applied research with the fungal biocontrol agents like Beauveria bassiana and Metarhizium anisopliae. She worked on the development of mycopesticide production and formulation technologies with the research grants from ICAR (NATP), DST, UGC and a private firm. She is the recipient of V. Puri medal of Indian Botanical Society. Genetic improvement of biocontrol agent for field efficacy and detecting molecular markers for virulence are her current interests.
