Thermal power plants using coal generate huge quantities of ash, about 700 million tons, out of which India contributes about 110 million tons. It poses a serious problem in bulk storage and handling.Giving emphasis on the bulk utilisation of coal ash such as embankments, pavements, backfilling etc,the book enumerations in detail the characterisation of coal ashes for geotechnical applications and deals with the chemical, physical and engineering properties of coal ash. The potential of coal ash that favours its use in stabilishing soils has been discussed. This book will assist graduate, postgraduate, and research students as also practising civil engineers.
