This book profiles each of the twenty two member countries of the Arab Laegue. The profiles given in four divisions. The first namely ‘Geography and Topography’ discusses the country’s land flora and fauna. The second ‘Society and Culture’ sheds light on the people, their language, religion, education, arts, architecture, media, health, welfare, youths, women, customs and way of life. The third ‘Economy and progress’ has a survey followed by information about the country’s agriculture, industry, energy, transport, tourism, communication, trade and currency. The fourth final one is ‘Government and Administration’ that covers the three branches of executive, legislature and judiciary in addition to the country’s political parties. If any, and a small sketch of defense affairs. Each country has a political map attached to it. Flags of all countries are grouped together in the middle of the book. A digest of important facts and figures about each country has also been given for a quick reference. It is hoped that the book will be much useful to the seekers of basic knowledge about the Modern Arab World.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR A. Basheer Ahmad Jamali

Dr. A. Basheer Ahmad Jamali is an Associate professor of Arabic in the centre of Arabic and African Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has been teaching graduate and post-graduate courses and guiding M.Phil and Ph. D research scholars in the university since 1989. His specialization includes Arabic Syntax, Translation, Arab History and Culture. His publication, besides several research articles in reputed journals, includes a book entitled “A comparison of Arabic –English Syntax”.
