Environmental politics covers issues from the local to the global and throws up challenges to our concepts of the natural world. Environmental politics is not just another policy option, it is a radical philosophy which questions some of the most traditional and accepted perceptions of the world as it is, and as it will be if environmental concerns are not addressed immediately. A running theme through this book is the concept that sustainable development is fundamental because it embodies a range of ideals and principles whose realization is necessary to a green future. This theme links the parts and chapters of this book. This book concludes by looking at the actors and the parties, peoples and groups active in contemporary environmental politics. In addition, it endeavours to show the way in which ideas which perhaps seemed merely theoretical and abstract when considered independently of practice, have a real impact on the thought and actions of activists, governmental policy makers and the general public.
