Poverty explicitly means scarcity and surrounds a struggle for basic survival. The world all over, the poor people have no food to eat. Education and other growth aspects are far-fetched dreams for them. People living in the society on subsidies or free goods and food coupons are glaring examples of this class of people. To alleviate their own poverty, a lot of them succumb to social and economic crimes. There is a second class of people who are caught in the debt trap. They struggle each day for a normal survival and on the pretence that everything is fine with them, however unable to cope, they end the life cycle themselves or succumb to corrupt short cut economic practices. Some of these are unemployed, underemployed, semi-employed etc. There is ample evidence in society of people resorting to terrorism in the hope of alleviating their own poverty. The global picture, however, seems very positive and all countries seem to be moving towards growth and development. There is movement to eradicate poverty. The question here is how successful are these endeavors. Poverty does not require sympathy, it requires positive action plans. Such matters of concern are brought to light in this book. The book highlights the various issues of poverty, the faces of poverty and also facts behind which it lurks. Thereby, the book brings a different meaning to poverty. In the latter section, the book presents experiences in various countries where processes are made to eradicate the same. There is hope that poverty may be rendered history.
