In preparation for the World Education Forum in Dakar, April 2000, more than 180 countries have participated in the Education for All 2000 Assessment, preparing country reports on the development of education for all. In these country reports, information was given answering key questions about the progress in basic education over the last decade of the twentieth century. This global synthesis draws upon the country reports, as well as regional syntheses, thematic and specially commissioned studies to bring together answers to questions related to successes, shortcomings and failures, and future progress of education for all. This book discusses issues concerned to the Jomtein decade, the six Target dimensions of education for all, and the outstanding issues of EFA. This book will be of great use to educationists, policy makers, researchers, and NGOs and educational institutions in achieving the goals of education for all, a global initiative to educate every human individual born of earth.
