This volume contains an interesting mix of folk tales, myths and legends, some of which could be considered a blend of both history and folk legend. Stories of Dokka Sitamma, Alluri Sita Ram Raju and Bhadrachalam Ramadasu are a few such. The River Godavari in Andhra Pradesh is the beautiful, serenely blue background of this collection of fascinating stories. Most of them originates in the fertile plains east of the river, but can we stop stories from flowing down its slivery course and being told and retold by generation of Telugu-speaking people? Learn about legends that flirt with history – Dokka Sitamma, food and care giver during the 19th century famines and Sita Rama Raju, hero of the Agency Hill tribals and freedom fighter. Take a boat ride with Roama and Dicti and sing along with Bhakta poet, Ramadasu of Bhadrachalam. On a lighter note, ride with donkey with Naganna and Somulu, play pranks with the playful and powerful Goddess Nukalamma, capture a foolish tiger a la Nootiki Bantu and get a galactic view of an idiot’s flight to heaven! On, and you must shoot the breeze with Amina Bi, kindly grandmother, and her favorite quissa. All this and more awaits you inside.
