Graham Greene is undoubtedly a colossal figure in twentieth century English literature. He is a prolific writer and has proved to be one of the main literary experts to the English speaking world. His writings are not just items for entertainment, they indeed have a much profounder meaning or significance. The present study is an attempt to analyse and interpret the unmistakable strands of philosophic and religious themes in the novels of Graham Greene, in site of a rather heavy dose of thrill, suspense, physical pursuit and violence in most of his fictional writings. The author has tried to undertake an elaborate analysis and interpretation of the existential philosophy so frequently encountered in Greene’s fiction. Greene himself says that he is not a Catholic novelist, he is, in fact, a novelist who does also happen to be a Catholic. There are unmistakable references to Greene’s religious obsession in his works. An efforts has been made by the author to underline the fact that the element of thrill, physical pursuit, suspense, or excitement and the strands of philosophic and religious themes, present in the novels of Greene are not really separate or separable items; they are all fused into one another and the novelist works upon them and develops them together to integrate his fictional works into articulate products of art. It is hoped that this book will cater to the needs of researchers as well as those of post graduate students.
