The 34 papers in this volume, presented at the 14th Annual Conference of Economic Association of Bihar, attempt to examine the inter-relationship between growth, equity and social justice, with special reference to India. Analyzing Ambedkar’s paradigm of social justice in relation to traditional Hindu caste system, they discuss at length the equality of rich and poor as well as men and women in respect of literacy, health, employment and development.
The contributors also deal with the empowerment of dalit women, role of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyana, social justice and panchayati raj, varna system, problems and prospects of migration, basic education, gender equity, and right to education. The views of Mahatma Gandhi on poverty, equity and social justice make part of the discussion as well.
