This handbook provides all aspects of piping design starting from fluid properties, stress analysis, construction and fabrication details, compensating methods for thermal expansion, erection, etc. to maintenance of all pipeworks whether underground or overhead, carrying any fluid like water, oil, air, industrial gases (like Oxygen, Nitrogen, Acetylene, etc.), steam and slurry. All theories, tables, charts, etc. connected with fluid flow have also been nicely presented and explained in simple and lucid manner for clear understanding of the subject by the user. Flexibility and stress analysis and network analysis through computer, FORTRAN programming with solved examples are some of the unique features which will provide tremendous confidence to the user.

In nutshell, the handbook is very comprehensive and useful to designers working in the field of pipework in Steel Plant, Fertilizer and Chemical Industries, Petroleum Industries, Power Plants, Public Health Engineering Departments, etc. At the same time, it is also useful to fresh engineers joining industries for improving their knowledge in the field of fluid transportation and pipework.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR G K Sahu

Gokul Krishna Sahu, author of the handbook is a B.Sc. Engg. (Mech) Graduate of 1965 from BIHAR INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY under Ranchi University. He joined Rourkela Steel Plant, SAIL in the year 1965 and is continuing there since then. He has worked in different units of the plant and has vast experience specially in pipework. In 1971, he was sent to Germany for training in ``Maintenance of Acid and Alkali Pumps`` where he developed his aptitude in design work and later on after this return from Germany he was posted in Design Department and given the responsibility of Utility and Services Section. While working in this section, the author got the opportunity of designing many pipelines. Also, he came in contact with many designers of M/s MECON, M/s Dastur & Co., M/s Otto India, etc: and had regular interaction with them, which created a lot of confidence in the mind of the author. Since he had to study many books to make of design calculation, he thought of writing a book using his own design calculations and lastly this handbook is the outcome of his work.
