The manuscript has been divided into five chapters for the sake of convenience. Chapter 1 introduces the need of forest enterprise and way outs to tackle the problems. Chapter 2 covers different aspects of nursery right from selecting of site for nursery to study of germination parameters, conditioning of seedling and management of fertilizers application and insect-pest and diseases. Third chapter is devoted for raising and managing of plants. This includes matching site and species, lay out, soil working and finally after care of the plantation. Once the plant gets established the diversity of both plants and insect increases. Knowing the status of regeneration of principal species and other species is also important. Hence regeneration survey and vegetational survey have been covered in chapter 4. Quality of wood is of prime importance, which is obtained by thinning the crops. Thus method of thinning and cost involved in raising forest crops have also been covered in this chapter. Insect-pest and diseases are part and parcel of forest. Control measures of these has also been suggested in chapter four. The sale and purchase of forest resource, particularly wood, cannot be thought of without measuring the amount of wood stored in forest area. Per cent profit and loss depends upon the accuracy of measurement. Hence chapter 5 is exclusively devoted for measuring diamention, age and volume of forest by means of different methods.
