This is the first book of its kind on the subject "Health and Law—A Guide for Professionals and Activists". The field of health and the field of law are both vast and highly specialised. Each of these encompasses several special areas. However, both share a common aim in as much as both are ultimately meant for betterment and development of the society. It is this commonality which is the focus of this book. It is focused at three target groups of readers. First, legal professionals who deal with health issues; second, health professionals who need to know law; third, activists and others who are concerned about various rights (human rights, consumer rights, women’s rights, child rights, workers’ rights, etc.). The needs of the three groups are bound to vary. An attempt has been made to cater to such needs in a balanced manner. While law constitutes the backdrop for this book, various health and medical concerns have been discussed using the idiom and phraseology peculiar to these disciplines. Thus, while law professionals would find serious legal discussion and citations related to health law, those not initiated in law would find here a lucid presentation of legal issues related to health in a manner with which they are familiar.
