Improvement in quality of life is the aim of all development and social service programmes in a welfare state. This laudable goal can be achieved on a cost-effective and trouble-free basis through health education. An attempt has been made in this book to fill the void in this direction. In order to realise this objective, several innovative and instructive ideas formulated by an interdisciplinary team of exponents, based on research and long-term successful experiences, form the basis of some of the chapters. It begins with certain promising perspectives on health education and human resource development of the change-agents plus clients, and supported by suitable intervention of nutrition, adoption of proven preventive and rejuvenative principles of Ayurveda and Yoga. They can succeed when century-old successful lifestyle and healthy sexual life are imparted to people, which are focused in the different sections. Certain ideas and experiences of experts given on selected severe diseases viz., AIDS, cardiac problems, diabetes, leprosy, and T.B. may give relief and save the lives of millions of people, poor and rich alike, all over the world. All these can reach the beneficiaries, when appropriate and effective communication and education strategies are judiciously adopted as elucidated in a number of other chapters. Another major strength of this book is the innovative and valuable ideas given on the major causes of rapid population growth and how they can be controlled expeditiously. For overcoming this greatest problem of the mankind, a number of policy issues and strategies, based on several successful experiences and limitations of the world’s largest two populous countries viz., China and India respectively, have been succinctly discussed. Thus, this book is a major contribution and a valuable addition to the personal and public libraries all over the world.
