ABOUT THE AUTHOR K.N. Shiva
Dr. K.N. Shiva, Ph.D., had his post graduate and doctoral degrees in Horticulture from the Indian Agriculture Research Institute, New Delhi. He joined the ICAR as a Scientist in Horticulture and for some time worked in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Later be joined the IISR and became associated with the All India Coordinated Research Project on Spices (AICRPS), where is now a Senior Scale Scientist. For the last few years he has been actively involved in the monitoring of the spices research programmes being carried out in over twenty centers under the AICRPS. He has published over 25 research and review papers and book chapters.

Dr. Utpala Parthasarathy, Ph.D. has 23 years of experience on horticultural crops. She has specialized in the use of biotechnology and GIS tools in horticulture. She has published a large number of research papers and contributed chapters in various books. She had used the remote sensing and GIS for various studies in spices and plantation crops.

Dr. V.A. Parthasarathy, Ph.D. a renowned and well-known horticulturalist cum biotechnologist of repute is the Director of Indian institute of Spices research (ICAR), calicut from 2002. He is a recipient of ICAR Team Award in Horticulture (as leader) during 2002 and is widely traveled. He has more than 30 years of research experience in Horticulture / plantation crops like citrus, vegetables, gerbera, gladiolus, coconut and spices. An expert in bio-technology and breeding of horticulture crops, he has published over 170 research articles in refereed journals, edited 15 books and contributed about 40 chapters and invited reviews. He also guided many Ph.D. students. He is member of many committees.
