There is no dearth of books on the history of Akbar’s reign, however much light has not been focussed on the vital role played by Hindu officers during his reign. In this monograph the author makes an indepth study of this aspect. Some of the Hindu officers of Akbar really distinguished themselves and make a tremendous contribution to the expansion and consolidation of the Mughal empire. An effort has been make to provide the readers with a detailed description of Akbar’s attitude towards Hindu officers heralding a new epoch in the history of Muslim rule in India. The book offers a detailed study of the urgency and necessity of appointing Hindu officers. A survey of the position of the Hindu officers under Muslim rulers before Akbar has also been carried out. It deals with the part played by them both in civil administration as well as military expeditions. The book dilates on importance of their contribution to diplomacy as also their advisory roles. The book describes the life-sketch of Akbar’s thirtyone major Hindu officers, and brief biographical account of fifty minor officers.
