History of Higher Secondary Education in India

This book reflects the importance of higher secondary education and its historical reforms and development in India in a period of repeated change in the system and pattern. The higher secondary education in India with the changing system expanded considerably. The programme of diversification of higher secondary education had been implemented a long back. But the achievement of this programme is quite unsatisfactory due to absence of an effective link with the relevant sectors. A landmark change in the system and pattern of higher secondary education implemented in India since 1968 by introducing the National Policy of education which was reviewed in 1986. The historical reforms and development in reference to higher secondary education provides exhaustive informations. Through the plan and policies, the government had been conducting experiments on education particularly at the +2 stage. This resulted in deviation of the purpose of education. Throughout the years of planning and development of education of different stages with a national consensus a relevant effort had been made to eradicate the drawbacks of educational system. If this book can contribute in a small way to the improvement of the system of higher secondary education, the time and efforts that have been truly fruitful.
