The volume has surveyed the significant events both during the East India Company’s period as well as India under the crown. The commercial struggle in the early phase led to the political struggle and the British could have its sway over a large area of the sub-continent, of course the administrative capability of British Bureaucrats did pay them rich dividents. India under the crown had to face several political events, mainly with the foundation of the Indian National Congress in 1885. The emergence of Mahatma Gandhi brought about a new style of non-violent Satyagraha which greatly strengthened the pathway to Swaraj. The mass movements, in many ways, succeeded leading ultimately to complete independence.
