This book deals with the political and socioeconomic conditions of India from 1800 AD to 2002 AD. It discusses many important aspects of the History of Indian people during the period laying special emphasis on the renaissance in the 19 century which has transformed India from a medieval to a modern country. A critical appraisal of different forms of India’s struggle for freedom—started with the Swadeshi Movement in Bengal and ended with the achievement of freedom from British in 1947—with special reference to the value of their contribution towards its ultimate success is a special feature of this volume. Done in a proper spirit, unaffected by emotional and extra-scientific considerations, this work will be a valuable contribution to the students and teachers of history and for other allied interests.
