Host plant resistance is considered to be the key to integrated pest management as this approach is environment friendly, provides cumulative protection against insect pests and is often compatible with other pest management tactics. During the last two decades, spectacular progress has been achieved in development of insect resistant varieties to major insect pests of agricultural crops. Recently the release of transgenic crops has generated a keen interest among scientists, farmers and environmentalists. The present book provides state of art of various issues related to the development of insect-resistant varieties and also highlights the future directions in host plant resistance for providing sustainable pest management. The book would prove useful to all those interested in developing durable insect-resistant varieties and would also serve as an advanced text in host plant resistance to insects.
