Human Rights for the Third Millennium

In India, the genesis of Human Rights could be retraced, way back from the Vedic Period, (2500 B.C. – 1500 B.C.), even though, the rechristened nomenclature ‘Human Rights’ was not in usage as such. The glimpses of human rights and human duties of the rulers and the ruled had been categorically codified as glittering landmarks in the annals of the human rights culture in ancient India. Nevertheless, there had always been certain stumbling blocks on the path of the humankind, negating the propagation of the holistic progress for a widening horizon. This book presents a detailed sketch of innumerable upheavals which depict a lamentable catalogue of violations of exploitative outcry of barbaric atrocities, tyrannical autocracy, horrendous genocide, inhuman torture, hellish brutality, remorseless and heartless murders. The ugly faces of human rights depict the ghostly tentacles of gory crimes. When human dignity is suppressed by repressive laws with oppressive armed hands, it leads to the resultant depressive despondency. To nullify this, there came the human rights vintage of efficacious remedies as pacesetters and eye-openers. The metamorphosised multifaced human rights sublime in the kaleidoscopic spectrum as crimson and azure on the sands of time. To quote but a few are: fundamental rights, natural rights, civil rights, social rights, so forth which branch out as right to education, right to expression, rights of the child, rights of the woman and many more. Ground reality of human rights is the litmus test of zooming modernity and pinnacles of civilization. On the horizon of the third millennium let the benign lamp of wisdom for humanity propagate in full splendour for eternity and moral grandeur of the soul. Human rights that are envisaged in the Constitution of India, 1950, in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1948 and in other treaties. Covenants, conventions and declarations, form the rock-beds for a salubrious climate of solaces tomorrow. It is at this juncture, this assiduously endeavours in marching ahead by invigorating human rights awareness and human rights culture with adaptable mechanisms to make this Earth a Heavenly Abode to live in.
