Practiced Law for three years and later joined the elite Indian Police Service. In that capacity held several positions including District Superintendent of Police of largest problematic districts, Director of Police Training Academy, Chief of Intelligence and Security, Karnataka State; Director of Trade Promotion in Australia with headquarters in Sydney; Diplomat and Head of Chancery in Indian Embassy in Moscow (then USSR); Chief of Investigation of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case; Director-General of Central Reserve Police Force, the largest para-military force in India; Director of the prestigious Central Bureau of Investigation of India; Director-General in National Human Rights Commission.
