The Department of Philosophy Gujarat University Ahmedabad organized a five-day International Conference on World Peace from 29th Dec. 2003 to 2nd Jan 2004 in which more than 240 delegates from all over the world participated. In the conference’s academic sessions that ran simultaneously at seven places, scholars presented ore than 210 papers from various fields. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Intaj Malek

Dr. Intaj Melek is an ardent lover of Literature, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Poetry and Drama. Taking first a Bachelor Degree in Commerce, he continued his pursuit of studies in the Faculty of Arts and took his Bachelor Degree in English Literature with Gold Medal and M.A in English Literature. His philosophical inquisitiveness led him further to do M.A. in Philosophy, which he did with the first rank at the Gujarat University, Ahmedabad. He did his Ph.D on "Upanishads and Islamic Mysticism" under the guidance of renowned Prof. Dr. Yajneshwar Shastri, Department of Philosphy, Gujarat University. He is interested in writing Poetry, Plays, and Articles on Literature and Philosophy. He has translated several Plays and Poetry from English into Gujarati language and has written several Poems and Plays in English. He has translated five plays from English into Gujarati and written two foll length plays n English. He work as a Sales Tax Officer Class-I with the Department of Sales Tax, Gujarat.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Sunanda Shastri

Dr. Sunanada Y. Shastri, the author of this monograph, is Lecturer in Sanskrit, in the department of Sanskrit, University School of Languages, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad. She is First Class First with distinction in M.A. (Vyakarana) and recipient of three gold medals. She has also M.A. (Vedanta) from University of Pune. She holds Ph. D. degree of Gujarat University in Sanskrit. Her specialization is Dharmasastra, Vedanta and Grammar. She has traditionally studies Sanskrit in Pathasala at Pune. Dr. Sunanada Y. Shastri has four books to her credit. She has four books to her credit. She has several research papers published in English, Sanskrit and Marathi in national and international journals. She is the author of ‘Sanskrit for Beginners’ (1994), now in its second edition (1998). She has contributed by invitation, ‘Ahimsa and unity of all things: A Hindu view of Non-violence, to ‘Subverting Hatred’, published by Boston Research Centre, for the 21st Century, Cambridge, U.S.A. She has also contributed “Philosophy of Sri Vallabhacarya and His Followers”, to ‘Systems of Vedanta, Vol. II. Centre for Studies in Civilizations’, New Delhi. Dr. Sunanda Y. Shastri was invited by the Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles, U.S.A. to teach Sanskrit in 1994.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Yajneshwar Shastri

Dr. Yajneshwar Shastri is born in 1948, in Kosguli (Karnataka). Dr. Shastri worked as Acting Director of L.D. Research of Indology. At present he is in Deptt. of Philosophy, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad. Dr. Shastri contributes regularly in Indian & Foreign Journals. A number of Books on Indology are already to his credit. He took his Ph.D. in Philosophy from University of Bombay, he also holds the ‘Shastri’ and Acharya degree in Sanskrit from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bombay.
