This the only pioneering study available in North east Region on the behaviourial relationships between income, expenditure, savings and investment in the rural areas of Assam and thereby getting an idea about the degree of ‘closedness’ of the village economics. This work is methodologically oriented and offers estimates of income distribution with reference to resources, productivity of those resources economic well-being of the rural people, savings patterns, reasons for and magnitude of rural indebtedness with the aid of appropriate statistical tools and techniques. A ‘Complete System’ approach to economic study of villages could unravel the functioning of and changes in the village economy including quantitative measurement of either economic self sufficiency or economic inter-dependence. The book fills up the grip in the analytical study in the direction of imparting a social accounting approach to rural economic research. Besides being a useful reference work for the post-graduate students majoring on agricultural economics, the book would provide much new information for experts who are interested in pursuing scientific study of the behavioural dynamics of rural economy in Assam.
