The fast changing international environment of today – where issues of economic globalisation and transnational security have become central concerns – has not only reinforced the mutuality of Australian and Indian interests but in turn opened new opportunities for closer cooperation, thereby setting a new milestone in the past fifty years of the history of Indo-Australian relations. The rapidly maturing bilateral relationship is already reaping substantial dividends offered by the more open and competitive economies across the Indian Ocean. With the groundwork already laid and given the political will and positive disposition, both the governments are committed to taking the necessary initiative to deepen further the bilateral relationship in the years ahead. The present book – a compendium of critical analysis by both Indian and Australian scholars with abiding interest in developing a more dynamic and forward-looking approach to the bilateral relationship – seeks to identify a range of issues regarded as being vital in the evolving India-Australia relations, and provides useful insights for the policy-makers into the as yet unexplored opportunities in both the countries – all with a view to enhance grater awareness and closer engagement between the two countries and their peoples.
