The papers compiled in this volume were presented at the Pacific Asia Conference on Korean Studies organised by the Jawaharlal Nehru University. The conference brought together a number of scholars and experts of Korean studies as well as persons with expertise in other disciplines. The discussion groups and panels covered a wide range of subjects such as language, literature, art, history, religion, culture, economics, international relations and geography. The conference was the first one organized on this scale–over a 100 participants–by the Centres of Korean Language and Korean Studies of JNU.
