This is a study of the economic dimension of India-Central Asia relations in the light of post-Cold War politics and developments. Keeping in view the new perspectives of Indian policy towards Central Asian Republics as enunciated in the ‘Connect Central Asia’ Policy unveiled in 2012, it takes up the ties of India with Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan in detail, covering cooperation in the different economic sectors as well as defence, education, science and technology, medicine, tourism, drugs and pharmaceuticals, and chemicals and petrochemicals. It argues that despite the centrality of the energy issues in their relations, there is a need to see the economic ties through a wider prism that would involve sectors including infrastructure, construction, transport, banking, agribusiness and information and communications technology. It examines transportation networks likely to propel India into the Central Asian picture.
