Following upon the India Infrastructure Report a decade ago, the India Rural Infrastructure Report summarises the state of rural infrastructure in four major sectors: power, telecommunications, roads and transport, and water supply and sanitation. Given that the infrastructure shortcomings are far more acute in rural areas than in towns and cities, this study proposes a blend of customised approaches, new financing methods, means for promoting local initiatives and decentralised regulation accessible to the users. The study is designed to stimulate policy responses and bring about meaningful transformation in the hitherto understudied area of rural infrastructure.
