This book on Indian Drama in English is a yeoman service to the criticism of drama in India as it is the least treaded area of Indian literature in English. It comprises critical materials on both original plays in English and on translations from the regional languages. It covers both well known playwrights and their plays and rediscovers the hidden gems. It consists of twenty two well researched, comprehensive and scholarly papers by the writers of repute. It includes papers on th4 dramatic art of Girish Karnad, Mahesh Dattani, social realism of Rama Sarma’s play and on the formal aspect of Asif Currimbhoy and B. Ahmed. Other papers are the critical evaluations of the plays. They are Tagore’s red Oleanders, The post Office, Karnas’s Naga-mandala, tale Danda, Tuighlaq, Auribindo’s Vasavadutta, Mohan Rakesh’s Halfway House, mad delight, Vijay tendulkar’s Ghasiram Kotwal, G.V. Desani’s hali, Gurucharan Das’s Larins Sahib, Shiv K. Kumar’s The Last Wedding Aniversary, Asif Currimbhoy’s Inquilab and the refugee, and Kottor’s Fire in the Soul. We hope that book would be welcomed by the readers of Indian drama in English.
