Government and politics are interrelated subjects. Whether or not developments in government and politics in India will exacerbate the continuing problems or give birth to greater and strong democracy broadly hinges on efforts to resolve key issues: How will India’s political system accommodate the changes taking place in its hierarchical social system? How will the state balance the need to recognise the country’s heterogeneous society with the imperatives of national unity? These issues, with their intrinsic tensions, will continue to serve as sources of change in the continuous evolution of government and politics in India. Hence, present book deals with them in the light of constitutional provisions. The book is of immense utility to students, teachers, politicians and general readers.
