The book traces the evolution and gradual development of Indian music from the very beginning of human civilization to the modern scientific age. Beginning with the music of the Vedic and Puranic c ages it goes on to explore the romantic idea of "raag-raagini" and its classifications alongwith the brief history of music of the A.D. 16th, 17th and 18th centuries with pertinent references to the Persian and Arabic influence on Indian Music. It covers the aphorism and also the actual form of music of this age, widely known as "Hindusthani Sangeet Padhati" expounded by the late Pt.V.N.Bhatkhande more than half a century ago.
It also deals with the fundamentals and histoyy of the various type of songs, with rare traditional compositions and description of the various musical instruments (alongwith illustrations) in a lucid manner. It will prove to be very valuable for students and scholars of music.
