This work is the first ever attempt to unravel the evolution of Indian mysticism from Rig – Veda to the present day. Modern Indian mysticism is possibly epitomized by what is known as Surat – shabd – Yoga reference to which has been made since medieval times but the techniques of which was first described by the founder of the Radhasoami faith.
This work analysis the salient features of mysticism in the Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagvad Gita, Yoga Vashisht, Puaranas, Jainism, Buddhism, Ramayana, Mahabharata, Tantra Shastra , Islam and also cover several medieval Indian saints like Chaitanya Maha Prabhu, Kabir, Nanak, Tulsidas, Mirabai, Baba Farid, Muin – ud – din Chisti, Nizam – ud – din Auliya and many more.
