Women constitute half of the human race, but economically, socially and politically they occupy a secondary place in the world in relation to men, a position comparable in many respects with that of minorities. Women continue to be exploited and marginalized. Despite successive decades of activism, scores of movements, legislations, policies and programmes, women still are struggling to achieve ‘gender justice’. The scenario in India is aggravated by the person and prevalence of the caste system which leads to systemic social deprivation. Adequate access to resources, power and decision making is a pre-requisite towards gender justice. The present volume entitled ‘Indian Women in Development Perspective’ has been prepared to further the debate on the issues related to empowerment and development. These empirical studies, would add to the new scholarship in the realm of women’s studies. This effort to bring in a nutshell various issues pertaining to women in contemporary times is a thoughtful step. There is an attempt to address the concepts confronting ‘Feminism’ from Indian perspective.
